that moth needs to DIE. and soon

Forgot to mention.....

Went out last night.
As in, proper went out, to a gig. Shameful that it's the first one I've ever gone to (sheltered me).
Twas a part of the stag and dagger festival "Smash Japan & Strummerville present 100% Genki", a night of some new Japanese bands.
And they. were. amazing.

First lot up, a group called 80 kids. Pretty funkay music played, both guitarists pretty good looking, and the girl was so damned tiny and cute. Liked their music quite a bit. Also seems that DJ Mike, a fellow ichinbensei, is mates with them. Hmmm.

Next up, a Dj called De De Mouse, who seemed to think we were in Hoxton and not London, but was so farkin loopy and hyper that it didn't really matter. Some fab synthesizer and beats and stuff.
The next guy up, Tucker, didn't play anything too much to my taste, but was a one band guy, who played random instruments everywhere and then set fire to the top of his own keyboard. Then headstanding on it. And other bixarre acrobatics. Okay then.

Finishing up with a funky funky band called Riddim Saunter, with a drummer who was a very very genki man, a man with a trumpet and FLUTE, a couple of good looking guitarists, and a very good looking lead singer, who played a mean cowbell. I danced my arse off, everyone danced their arse off, it was good all around. Shall be perusing for downloadable music of them at some point.
Wish I'd've taken my camera though, so I could've had some pics to show you. Oh, and so I could've shown you pics of the incredibly good looking guys in hats that I spied halfway through the night. Got close to them during the dancing, but not close enough to warrant names and numbers, damnit. Although, apparantly they're mates of the guy who organises the London/Japan language exchange, and is friends with some of the 4th years I got talking to (one of whom will still be around next year). So there be potential connections. And yes, all of those good looking men I was taking about, were Japanese. Hello ikemen.

It's also rather shaneful that barely anyone from the group turned up. Just myself, G, Alice, and G's flatmate (who's a right funny bloke). We were later jouned by Hanna and Aliczia, but they left midway through Tucker performing :/ Jack from the flat next door also was around, and he's a comedy bloke when drunk. Like refusing to get off the bus when it's our stop, cause he'd rather talk about the imaginary yacht he doesn't own. Baka.

But seriously. Amazing night out, some amazing music and dancing. Come September, shall be seeking out maybe more.

#I want somebody/ichido dake#

5 exams down. 1 to go.
The 3 hour exam on Monday, which saw me leave an hour early, cause I'd "finished"..?
Yeah, that was pretty much a bombed out failure. Guh.
The Aspects of Japanese history/culture (1600s onwards) on Weds was..... a lot of throwing nonsense around.
Hopefully the one next Wednesday (the start of existance to 1600s) will go slightly better.

14 days to camp. In 2 weeks time at this time of day I will have hopefully arrived at camp. CANNOT wait. So much to do before I go.
Like move out of the halls of residence for a start. Made a beginning with some things today uber-ridiculously heavy luggage dragged home on the train (which took me half an hour to buy tickets for, wtf). Who knows how many other trips it'll take to get the rest of the stuff home (thnk you parentals for not helping). I aim to have moved everything out by a week on Tuesday, so I can then spend the following days after getting ready for camp, to spend the Thursday night there, and check out super-early Friday morning to catch the flight (meaning: no stupid midnight coach journeys and stupid-o-clock-in-the-morning stuck at Heathrow bus terminal). It sounds like no time left at all :s

Thank god I cleared my room at the family home properly over the year, cause how else I would fit all the crap I've accumilated over the year, I have no idea. Although before I sleep tonight, gonna have to evict the fucking giant moth that seems to have moved in. Gyah.

The twins' birthday tomorrow (technically today). 24 years old. Blimey is all I can say to that. Although it means dinner out tomorrow with one of the twins and the family. The other hasn't bothered to come back home, and is instead having it with the boyfriend ('lovingly' named 'garfield' by father dearest) who we reckon will probably make her pay for it. Yes, we think highly of him. ¬_¬

Had the Hana Kimi gathering with the girls again today. Uber-epic as always, chilling ith Sophie beforehand and a Shukudai-kun episode with some Mei-chan no Shitsuji (Rihito-samaaaa~), and then trying to get Fran and Polly to understand the genius that is Smile (but they don't quite seem to grasp it. *sigh* Me and Sophie shall just have to fangirl it by ourselves). Also trying to persuade Fran to watch Atashinchi no Danshi, since she's a fan of Yamamoto Yusuke (whom she fondly calls "ghost boy" [re: hana kimi], as she hasn't a clue what his name is), but she's not taking the bait. Hmmm. All in vain.

Got Martina, Hugo's girlfriend to cut my hair Tuesday night. Very happy with it. Also glad she ignored calls from fellow flatmates to make it a mohecan. Thankfully. Also happy that it was FREE. :D:D:D

oh no!

yes. clearly, i am studying. *g*

My 365 project kinda dropped off the face of existance. Go me and my commitment power. Kinda peeved about it, cause I wanted to do it properly for this year, it being my last year at camp. Ugh, am such a failure.
Wondering if I can get away with me starting my 365 project on 1st june? Hmmm. Or maybe even the last day of exams. Or maybe even Wednesday. Need to pinch one of the siblings point and click cameras too. The DSLR is not exactly portable in current bag state (ie not got one).

Musing on pictures, also thinking of having another flickr account. Mine's currently getting saturated with the thousands of camp pictures, and other amounts of event pictures. So it's pretty much a picture dump site. And not a proper photoblogtype place. Hmmm. *ponders*

It's still going on.
I, however, left the room half an hour ago.

Not really interested in being into kpop.
But came across this song from various wherever, and it's been in my head for the past 3 days. Non-stop.

Embedded here cause

a) For some god-unknown reason I have the biggest urge to watch (and therefore learn) the dance shot,

Matsumoto Jun, on the latest installment of his radio show Jun Style, played a Carpenters song.

I didn't think I could possibly love the man any more than I did, but after finding that...?

I'm not sure if it's the hall's internet, my laptop, or facebook, but the combination really impedes my internet surfing abilities.
Gyah.

Off on an early morning photomission with a fellow ichinensei tomorrow morning.
Yay for pics!
nihongo

readers digest of last couple weeks, in any order.

Exams: 3 down, 3 to go.

  • Japanese listening (week last Thursday): Not amazing, but didn't do too badly. I think
  • Japanese oral/writing (week last Friday): lets not even discuss this (there were many tears, and stupid mistakes on my part involving not even knowing the difference between boys and girls)
  • Japanese reading + grammar (yesterday): Uhhh. Well no tears in this one, but part of me thinks that's because I'm beyond tears now. Missed some questions entirely, but that's to be expected. Did get rather fucked off because Stupid James sitting in front of me kept stretching back and scratching the fuck out of his neck (ew ew ew ew ew ew ew ew). Rob claims that I should ask for an exenuating circumstances waiver on the grounds of James Flakes poisoning my paper.
  • Kanji + Translation, Aspects of Japanese Culture 1 and 2 (Monday, Weds and a week on Weds respectively): Uh. I know NOTHING.

Consensus in the inchinensei department is that continuous assessment being worth 30% in total (with 10% of that being homework, 4% being how much the sensei's like you class participation, and other odd things thrown in) means that I have a good chance of getting into second year. Myself, am not so sure. Then again, I am a pessimist.

Have been eating a ridiculous amount of bought food lately, instead of making food. Bad bad me. But then, most of this comes from coming out of an exam, and into the nearest Japanese restaraunt with the need to comfort eat. Last week, it was Hare and Tortoise (yay variety don). Yesterday, it was okonomiyaki (duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude SOOOOOOO good. I'm still full today). Sushi trips to the Japan Centre in Piccadilly have also become frequent. Nom.

Flatmates are..... being freaking contradictory in that they're fab in one minute, and pissing me off in the next. Well, just one flatmate when I think about it. If he juggles in my personal space once more those juggling balls are gonna get RAMMED where the sun don't shine. kajhdfljkfsg. Trends running round the dlb flat are a flashback to childhood, with Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow being played by 3 out of 5 members. I would, but i keep forgetting to. It's amusing when the 3 of them are sitting round the kitchen table with their laptops, with the random commentary and trying to outdo each other,
"Yeah, my Pikachu's a level TWENTY FIVE, yknow"
"your pikachu's got NOTHIN on my thirty four Wartortle, bitch"
"oh look it's a fuckin METAPOD. fuck off"
"look, the gaylord's turned up for a bitchfight"
    etc etc etc.
Speaking of kitchens, DO SOME FUCKING WASHING UP KJDHJADKGS:KJSHF:LSDJF@LHJ.
There is not a single clean plate in there. Or clean knife of fork. And once again, NONE of it I have used. wtf.
Would also like to remove the bass from the stereo of the flatmates. Makes my room vibrate, and does nothing except piss me off. Gyuh.

Dorama watching as ever, with this season's dorama's all being fab. Have also overdosed on Arashi no Shukudai-kun (25 eps in 5 days? possibly more or less?). Introducing Polly to the wonders of Hana Kimi. She's a giant Oguri Shun fan, and while she (silently) flails over him, myself, Sophie and Fran are bitchfighting over Nakatsu, Nanba-senpai and Kayashima (who is now fondly dubbed 'ghost-boy').
Have given Sophie a giant list of dorama to watch while I'm at camp, so she can catch up, and then we can properly fangirl when I get back.

CAMP. 3/4 weeks to go! I fly out the 5th June. Duuuuuuuuuude. Am excited for some stuff, still feeling apathy at other parts. Meh. Starting to feel the pre-departure jitters, with worry about the visa, crb check and whatnot. And money worries (as always). And SO MUCH TO DO before I go. Dude.
here's also to hoping that I can get everything on the 'list of things to do at camp this year' done. Hopefully, a meet-up with Ju will also feature on this list (but my camp finishes later than expected this year, damnit).

Need my hair cut. Was thinking of asking Martina (hugo's gf) of lopping off a couple of inches. Not sure if that's actually a good idea tho. Hmm. Shall ponder on it.

Need to see Star Trek before I head to camp. Yup.

    ponder ponder ponder

This month's challenge in Picspammy is oooh kinda hard. For me, anyhow. Compare and Contrast (that's such an exam period question too... how bizarrely appropriate to apply it to fandom instead of oh, the Muromachi period or somesuch other Aspects of Japanese Culture nonsense).
But WHAT to compare and contrast?
    *mindblank*

    ...I need sushi. And cake.

    farkin typical

Went home for Saturday night dinner, cause Saturday night is usually takeout or steak night in the family household. Steak and Sympathy go well together. (re: the oral I had yesterday that won't be talked about much, if only cause when I do attempt to, my brain shuts down and I'm reduced to babble)

Found out upon arrival that they'd moved takeout night to Friday night this week.

    ....

am making myself feel better by watching 5+ eps of Arashi no Shukudai-kun. Nom.

apathy is NOT a good thing in this line of work

Spent the last 2 days starting to upload last year's camp pics to facebook and flickr.
I get excited when looking through those.
I start looking through the online discussion forums that they've started, so they can brainstorm ideas for camp this year.
    And I'm not excited.
    There's something wrong about that.
Especially when I start thinking that I wouldn't mind having the cadette horse program for the entire summer.

    .....that's not good.

    stupidity

it's politial correctness gone through the other side.....

After a year at a univeristy where it's feels like you're commiting a crime if you're from this country, heterosexual, or not remotely interested in protesting anything and everything, I've seen the Union General Meeting notes come through every couple of months (and then later gone WTF at the majority of them in Nihongo class the next day, with other sane people).
    Things like the following:

The Quiz Show Golden - Episode 1

I've never really had the proper experience of actually watching a jdorama in season. And suddenly 3 or 4 come along all at once. (which is pretty cool, until I realise that I disappear off to camp in 5/6 weeks and will have no access to ANYTHING in fandom for a good 2 and a half months *fail*) (makes for some good marathoning when I get back, I suppose).

First up, The Quiz Show Golden. Never watched the original (but know that it had Sawatori-Kyoto from Gokusen fame), and dragged in cause everyone else is excited, and most probably cause it's got Sakurai Sho (of Arashi). I was rather reserved about it, but open minded, when I started watching.
But let me tell you this....
